Hundreds gather for new Carolina Beach Boardwalk opening
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds lined up this afternoon to watch leaders from across the county cut the ribbon on the brand new boardwalk at Carolina Beach. Town leaders say it’s now the most handicap-accessible beach in the state.
The mayor says it took 8 years of planning, but it opened just in time for this year’s tourist season.
The new boardwalk is the same length is distance, but it is double in width. There’s also beach wheelchairs available. Commemorative fish tiles cover the boardwalk featuring businesses, residents and visitors. New restaurants like Shelby Jean’s and the historic Britts all line the new boardwalk.
