Hundreds head to Beau’s Coffee on opening day


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The coffee shop on the corner of Kerr and Wrightsville Avenues was standing room only when we stopped by this afternoon, and founder Amy Wright 

Beau’s Coffee is named after Wright’s son who has Down Syndrome. She opened the shop to show people that folks with intellectual and physical disabilities deserve the same chances as anyone else would, especially in the workplace.

Today the store officially opened its doors and Wright said she is so excited about the support from the community.

“We’ve dreamt about this for a long time and just seeing the community come out and support these awesome individuals with disabilities and show them that they value who they are and they’re excited to be served by them. It’s been amazing,” said Wright.

Wright said there were about 200 people there this morning at the ribbon cutting. She said she could not be happier about how things are starting off.

Beau’s is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. They’re closed on Sundays.
