Hundreds of bindles of heroin found after arrest
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Myrtle Beach man is in jail in Brunswick County after an arrest on several drug counts on Friday.
Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Emily Flax says Raymond Cliffton Bird, 71, was arrested by deputies during a traffic stop at around 9:30 a.m. Friday in Calabash at the intersection of Highway 17 and Thomasboro Road. Deputies found around 180 bindles of heroin on him.
Flax says a search warrant was conducted at Bird’s residence, and also at a nearby storage facility, by the Horry County Drug Enforcement Unit. 25 grams of raw heroin, equating to about 2,500 bindles, were seized as well, along with around $18,000 in cash.
Bird is currently in Brunswick County Jail under $1 million bond.
Flax says Bird has additional pending charges in South Carolina, and that it is an ongoing investigation. The investigation was initiated from a tip and has been going on for approximately the past 6 months.
