Hundreds of people enjoy a unique snow day at the beach
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Usually when you think of a day at the beach, you think of sunscreen, toes in the sand and an umbrella to block out the sun.
But that wasn’t the case on Wednesday.
Hundreds of people enjoyed a special beach day by trading in their bathing suits for a jacket, pants, and snow shoes.
Some people walked their dogs while others threw snowballs at each other.
Callie Nagel is a UNCW student and said she didn’t expect to see so many people at the beach.
“You know it was very surprising. I just like didn’t expect it to be as much as it was and just like seeing how many people actually like came out here and wanted to be here today given that it’s like 20 degrees out.”
Wilmington resident Kyra Prance said it was hard to believe she was at the beach as she walked around.
“Honestly, it kind of like, it doesn’t feel real,” Prance said. “Like, I moved to the beach for college so I could be warm and then it starts snowing. It’s like, it doesn’t feel real, it’s like a dream.”
One group of people even went sledding, using boogie boards and inflatable rafts as their sleds.
Adisen Ames is a Wilmington resident.
She said it was special seeing so much snow at the beach.
“I think it’s beautiful,” Ames said. “I have never seen something so calm and like the waves are just different. I don’t know, it’s just magical. I know that’s a weird thing to say, but it’s magical.”
Several other people WWAY spoke with said it was a unique experience that they couldn’t miss out on, with many taking photos and selfies to document their day at the beach.
