Hundreds pay their respects at Wilmington National Cemetery

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The Wilmington National Cemetery was the site of the Memorial Day service, hosted by the New Hanover County Veterans Council.

During the Tolling of the Bells Ceremony, over six hundred names of local, fallen servicemen and women were read aloud.

Those service members passed away since last Memorial Day.

For most, the day was about remembering loved ones and friends who made and impact on their life.

“It’s a day everybody needs to remember the people who serve and protect their freedoms,” Elsbeth Miller, a retired Chicago Department Field Chief said.

Organizers say about 300 people attended Monday’s service.
