Husband of hit-and-run victim wants justice
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — January 20th is a day Ryan Schoolcraft wishes never happened. Its been more than three months since his wife, April Marie Daugherty, was killed in a hit-and-run.
The suspect, Jamell Roland, was charged with felony hit-and-run and has a bond of $500,000.
However, Schoolcraft believes that is not enough and wants justice for his departed wife.
“There’s no real way for anybody to really experience the pain I’m going through. I mean if you’ve lost a parent or a best friend, that’s similar. But this was someone I loved with all my heart. Someone I really cared about,” Schoolcraft said.
Schoolcraft said he wants Roland to face manslaughter charges. He thinks it is unfair that “people are getting more time for lesser crimes.”
“I was informed that there is a possibility the case might get dismissed and he might not do any time,” Schoolcraft said.
For now, he must wait for the final verdict.
If Daugherty was alive, she would’ve celebrated her 25th birthday today.
