ILM helps those with autism get more comfortable to taking flight

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More than 50 children and adults with autism plus their families will be participating in the 5th annual Autism Takes Flight at Wilmington International this weekend.

Started in 2013, the event helps families and children prepare for traveling.

“Autism Takes Flight” is a full mock airport experience, where participants check in, check their luggage, maneuver through security and retrieve their bag at baggage claim.

The airport says the role playing and realistic interactions help attendees get accustomed to the experience of flying.

It starts at 9 a.m.
