Impact of Cape Fear Memorial Bridge repair work on Fort Fisher-Southport Ferry

FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — As traffic continues to be impacted, those living in Brunswick County are looking for other ways to get to New Hanover County.

One of those ways includes taking the Southport ferry to Fort Fisher.

WWAY spoke with a ferry captain who said they didn’t see much of an increase in the number of cars taking the ferry over on Monday, but they did admit it’s only the first day the bridge is closed and that could change.

Barbara Abbey is a Wilmington resident who said the bridge closure hasn’t affected any future plans she might have in Brunswick County.

“Because tomorrow, I’m going with friends over the bridge, but one of my friends is driving and it doesn’t seem to have made any changes in our plans as we’re going to Leland,” Abbey said. “I mean, she’s just going to go over, same as usual.”

The schedule for the Fort Fisher to Southport Ferry can be found here.
