Investigation begins into cause of Leland home explosion

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — We have new details about a home explosion that happened in the Magnolia Greens neighborhood in Leland last month.

Leland Fire Chief Ronnie Hayes says the investigation into what caused that explosion began Thursday.

He says it took time to position equipment and bring investigators to the site.

The State Bureau of Investigations, the State Fire Marshall and representatives from the HOA’s insurance company all were on site.

Hayes says surrounding residents can still enter their home, but that the road will be closed for the next two days while authorities conduct their investigation.

“We’re checking to make sure the gas lines, was any gas being leaked from the liquid petroleum gas that served this house, were there any other things that were obviously leaking, we’re testing all that equipment,” he said.

Hayes says investigators still do not suspect any foul play. Though, it could take months to even years before they have a definite cause of the explosion.
