Investigation ongoing in crash that killed mom, 9-month-old
STANTONSBURG, NC (AP) — The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating an accident in which a mother and her 9-month-old baby died in a head-on collision.
Local media outlets report a van was heading south on N.C. 58 near the Greene-Wilson county line when it crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck carrying four passengers.
Investigators identified the victims as Alibethe Santiago and her daughter, Abigail San Juan. The patrol said they were in the back seat of the northbound pickup truck. Both died at the scene of Tuesday’s accident.
Troopers said two other passengers in the truck, as well as the driver of the van, were injured and taken to VIdant Medical Center in Greenville.
An investigation is continuing and the patrol says charges are pending.
