Investigators on missing 4-year-old: ‘We believe we have discovered the body’

SCOTLAND COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Investigators say they believe they have found the body of missing 4-year-old Raul Gonzalez Johnson.

According to a release from FBI Public Affairs Specialist Shelley Lynch, the body was located in a pond off of Peabridge Road in Scotland County on Saturday. The Scotland County Medical Examiner’s Office must still confirm the identity of the body and the cause of death.

The FBI’s Evidence Response Team was in route to the scene, and a press conference scheduled for 3:00 p.m. has been postponed until further notice.

Approximately 150 searchers were out on Saturday trying to locate Johnson. The FBI announced Friday that a pond near the boy’s home would be drained.

Johnson was last seen on Village Drive Wednesday traveling on foot towards Crestline Road in Laurinburg, NC.
