Jet ski owners urge others to be careful and considerate on the water

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A lot of people hit the water Monday for Labor Day, celebrating the unofficial end of summer. Also on the water, jet skis, but do those operators know the risks?

Because of the watercraft’s speed and since a jet ski does not have brakes, they can be dangerous. In response, many people and some jet ski owners are asking other jet operators to be careful. Some say it’s worse when people rent the jet skis and are not cautious. It can lead to danger for themselves and other people in the water.

“Try to do the speed limit. Try to stay about 60 feet from other boaters. Try not to create any wakes. Just, if I was to go fast, it would be in the straightaway where there’s nobody else, other than that,” jet ski owner Miguel Arbos said.

Arbos also says he sees people jumping waves and hopes people will be considerate of other boaters.
