Join the conversation: Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement
CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY)– The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking input from residents regarding three options for replacing the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and improving South Front Street.
Each option proposes to expand the bridge from four to six lanes and add a pedestrian walkway.
Trace Howell, the Senior Project Manager for Division 3 at NCDOT, emphasizes that the current renderings focus on logistics rather than aesthetics.
He stated, “Everybody knows that this is iconic, so it’s definitely not representative of what it’s going to look like at the end of the day. We do need to have stakeholder input on any aesthetic features that will be part of it, too. So it’s really just getting those visuals out there for people to comment on.”
NCDOT plans to hold two meetings next week where community members can ask questions and provide feedback on the proposed designs.
The first meeting will be on October 8th from 5 to 7 PM at Daniels Hall at Cape Fear Community College, and the second will take place on October 9th from 5 to 7 PM at North Brunswick High School.
Residents can also submit comments about these designs in advance of the meetings through the NCDOT’s website.
