Juneteenth festivities celebrate 150 years of freedom
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Folks met at the Martin Luther King Center on S. 8th St. today to celebrate Juneteenth or National Freedom Day. Juneteenth celebrates the abolition of slavery in the US in 1865.
Today in Wilmington people celebrated with music, poetry, and getting together with one another. There was a bouncy house for the kids, as well as jewelry, clothing, and art for sale.
Event organizers said the Junteenth celebration is all about family and coming together to remember history and celebrate freedom.
