Jury begins deliberations in Pender County Clerk Elizabeth Craver’s trail
PENDER COUNTY (WWAY) — The jury is now in deliberations in the trial of Elizabeth Craver.
Earlier on Monday, Craver was questioned by prosecutors about an air conditioner she claims she bought to use in the Pender Courthouse, which was damaged in Hurricane Florence.
Craver was asked how and when she purchased the item, and about county reimbursement.
She faces three felony counts of obtaining property under false pretenses.
In closing arguments, Craver’s attorney — Buddy Allard — told jurors there’s no proof the items she bought were for her own use.
Allard also told the court his client had personal photos on her county-owned Apple computer because it synced to her private iPhone.
Prosecutors called Cravers’ actions calculated and deceptive.
They say she wanted to buy the items for personal use and wanted the people of Pender County to pay for them.
