Jury selection begins for three people allegedly involved in 2020 infant death

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Jury selection is underway for three people accused of being involved in the death of an infant in 2020.
Sylvia, Joel and Roby Garner will be on trial soon for their alleged crimes.
In November of 2020, Sylvia Garner (Joel Garner’s mother) was charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury; Joel Garner (the infant’s father) was charged with negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury; Roby Garner (Joel Garner’s father) was charged with negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury.
A fourth suspect in the case, Amy Marie Miles, does not have a court date set yet.
Miles is charged with the 2020 murder of her one-month-old baby, Adalynn Elizabeth Garner.
According to a spokesperson, the judge is expected to address Miles’ case after the conclusion of the Garners’ trial.
