WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Even before the first juror could be seated Tuesday, convicted sex offender Clarence Jacobs pleaded guilty in the attempted rape of a woman he assaulted inside her Racine Drive apartment last summer.

Clarence Cornelius Jacobs, 30, of Navassa pleaded guilty to charges of burglary, attempted first-degree rape, assault by strangulation and first-degree kidnapping. Jacobs also admitted to his status as a habitual felon, which would add prison time to his sentence.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the woman in her 20s left her apartment on Racine Drive at 7:30 a.m. June 4 to walk her dog. When she returned, a man was inside her home and attacked her. Police said the woman escaped by jumping nude from a second-story window.
