‘Just pray for him,’ wife says of NC man injured by lightning

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The wife of the man injured after lightning struck close him in Wake County Saturday said her husband remains in critical condition.

Damaris Hernandez said the full extent of her husband’s injuries is not known.

“It was really hard. It is really hard,” Hernandez said.

Gerardo Hernandez Rivera, 41, was at Jackson Auto Salvage on Poole Road southeast of Raleigh to pick up a few things when a fast-moving storm moved through.

Lightning hit near where Rivera was standing just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
