K9 assists in drug seizure following routine traffic stop

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — With the assistance of a K9, a routine traffic stop turned into to a drug seizure in Brunswick County Monday night.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Smith witnessed a vehicle run a stop sign on Holden Beach Road and nearly cause a collision.

The sheriff’s office said the driver became non-compliant and attempted to flee on foot. Smith gave repeated commands, but the driver ran towards a heavily wooded area.

K9 Oti was the deployed to assist and apprehended the suspect before they made it into the woods.

After being taken into custody, deputies conducted a search that led to the discovery of methamphetamine, oxycodone, drug paraphernalia, an open container, and a concealed firearm. Deputies also discovered approximately 205 grams of methamphetamine packaged for distribution according to the Sheriff’s Office.

57-year-old, Timothy Roberson of Georgia was booked into the Brunswick County Detention Center and charged with carrying concealed gun, resisting public officer, 2 counts of open container alcohol, failure to yield, possession of firearm by felon and trafficking in methamphetamine.
