WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Children’s Museum of Wilmington is inviting kids to participate in the Kids Olympics event.

The event will take place on February 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

As the world’s top athletes compete at the Winter Olympics in Italy, locally, kids will have the opportunity to participate in winter-themed activities to claim a prize.

“Taking a current event and making it relevant to a child’s life is a valuable opportunity,” said Mary Ellen Laughnan, Museum Educator. “We are excited to offer a Children’s Museum spin on the Winter Olympics– for example, if your kiddos had fun watching the bobsled racing on TV, they can build and decorate their own bobsled from a cardboard tube and race it down our plastic gutter racetrack at the Kids Olympics. Experiences like this help make cultural events like the Winter Olympics real and relevant to children even if they are happening an ocean away!”

Participants will collect Champion Stamps as they compete in the kid-friendly activities. Once they collect a certain number of stamps, they can turn them in to receive a bronze, silver, or gold medal.

Some of this year’s returning events include a frosty snowball toss, the torch relay race, and floor hockey.

Tickets to the event are $5 to members and $15 for non-members. Anyone looking to participate can purchase tickets online.
