Kure Beach Town Council discusses municipal building upgrades
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Kure Beach Town Council held a special meeting Monday night to discuss a $5 million town facility improvement project with the public.
The current police, fire and town hall buildings were constructed in the 1990s, and since then, town staff has more than doubled. The town population has also grown.
Last summer the town council hired an architectural firm to provide a design and an estimated construction budget for the expansion of town facilities.
The new design includes expanding the town hall building, building a new fire station, and adding 48 more parking spaces for visitors and staff.
“As long as we were working on the fire station, the town tall and the police department, for a number of years the chiefs of those departments have been asking us for the ability to renovate and give them more space,” Kure Beach Town Council Member Jim Dugan said.
The anticipated total budget for the project is $5 million.
Kure Beach Town Council expects these improvements will serve the town’s needs for the next 25 years.
