Lake Waccamaw’s first celebration of World Singing Day

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) —The Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum was filled with the sounds of music as the Acoustic Jam Session group came together to celebrate World Singing Day.

Held every third Saturday in October, this global event invites people to connect through the power of group song.

Notably, this year marked a significant milestone as neither North Carolina nor South Carolina had previously participated in World Singing Day, making this event a first for the Carolinas.

Steve Smith, the coordinator for Columbus County’s World Singing Day, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing this event to the region.

He stated, “Research has shown that group singing is actually very good for people’s mental health; it releases endorphins to your brain and generally gives people a more positive outlook.”

Smith ensured everyone could join in by passing around lyric sheets, allowing people to follow along and enjoy singing together.
