Lane closures planned for Isabel Holmes, Cape Fear Bridge

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Drivers should expect lane closures on the Isabel S. Holmes and Cape Fear Bridge as DOT crews make some repairs.

A DOT spokesman said the westbound lanes of the Isabel Holmes Bridge will close intermittently Monday night at 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. Tuesday. He said portions of the grid deck or welds can break from wear, fatigue or changes in weather. DOT crews will repair the damaged areas and inspect the deck for any other repairs as needed.

Then on Tuesday starting at 9 p.m. to Thursday at 5 a.m., DOT crews will intermittently close the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge nightly on U.S. 421 over the Cape Fear River in Wilmington. This closure will take place in order for crews to repair the metal deck on the bascule span of the bridge as well.

There are no scheduled detours, but officials urge drivers to use an alternate route if possible.
