Lane closures this week on Cape Fear Memorial Bridge
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After a holiday delay, lane closures will start tonight on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge between Wilmington and Brunswick County.
Starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m. Thursday, the NC Department of Transportation will intermittently close the eastbound and westbound lanes of the bridge nightly. These closures, originally scheduled for last week, were postponed due to anticipated heavy holiday traffic. The closures will take place in order for crews to make routine repairs to the metal deck on the lift span of the bridge. One lane will remain open to traffic at all times.
The NCDOT says crews will repair areas of the metal deck damaged from changes in weather, normal wear and fatigue. They will also inspect the remainder of the deck and make repairs as needed.
The bridge will not be closed to traffic; however, drivers are urged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
