WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – In the 2nd round of the NCHSAA baseball playoffs, Laney’s strong season continued with a 5-2 home win over Millbrook on Friday.

T.J. Ziermann got things going with a three run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning. When the score was 3-2 in the 5th, the Wildcats had the bases loaded with one out. Third baseman J.B. Brooks then caught a line drive before diving to tag the base before the runner could tag up, resulting in a double play to end the inning.

Brooks then drew a bases loaded walk before Trent Fowler drove in Carston Wedemeyer with a sac fly to build the Bucs lead before closing things out.

“Man, it takes everybody. I think as a collective group, we really excelled. The chemistry with this group has been far better than anything that I’ve seen the past couple years. We really mesh well together. Playoffs man, they’re always at a higher level than I think regular season just because everything’s at stake. But this team really knows how to step up to the competition and they know how to play hard.”

Laney’s next game will be Tuesday when they host Ashley.
