WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – In game one of the NCHSAA 4A East Championship Series, Laney won at home 6-3 Corinth Holders on Tuesday.

Tied at one in the 3rd, Trent Fowler grounded to center to drive in two runs and give Laney the lead. After that, T.J. Ziermann stepped up and hit a two run homer. The umpires initially ruled the ball foul, but reversed the call to cap off a five-run frame for the Bucs.

Ziermann also had a good showing on the mound, finishing two outs shy of a complete game.

Jack Holliman scored late for an insurance run on a wild pitch.

Game two will take place in Wendell. Game three, if necessary, will be hosted by Laney.

“We’ll be sitting still for a while, but we’ll be ready to play like always,” Holliman said. “We’ll get off the bus, do everything the same and go after them. It’s great. It helps us out a lot. We’ve been doing it the last three games against Ashley, Jordan and now against Corinth Holders. We all come together and we have team at bats and we move runners and stuff. We all work as a team.”
