WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – In the 3rd round of the NCHSAA baseball playoffs, Laney took down cross-town rival Ashley 10-4 on Tuesday.

The hosting Bucs scored three runs in the opening frame. It started with a two RBI single from T.J. Ziermann, followed by an Eagle throwing error that allowed Dylan Cooper to reach home.

In the 5th, Laney one-upped themselves by putting up seven runs. Those included a two RBI single from Evan Skobel and a Jack Holliman fielder’s choice.

Ziermann was also the Bucs’ starting pitcher and began his outing with seven strikeouts for the first seven outs of the game.

“It’s a great feeling,” Ziermann said. “They got us last time they were here and we got them last time we were there. It’s good to kind of complete the series and get the upper hand on them. It’s a great feeling in coming in and dominating them again.”

Third-seed Laney will have another home game on Friday when they host 7th-seeded Jordan in the 4th round.
