Large hammerhead shark shows up in North Topsail Beach

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A large shark that washed up along North Topsail Beach is getting a lot of attention.

The 8 and half foot long hammerhead washed up along our coast Sunday evening.

Jorge Vasquez said he was walking down the beach when he saw a group of guys helping the shark that washed up get back out. He snapped a video which has been viewed more than 230,000 times.

The guys first measured the shark and took a few photos with it before eventually getting it back out to sea. The shark did swim away okay.
