Largest heroin seizure in Bladen Co. history

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Bladen County Sheriff announced the biggest heroin seizure in the county’s history after finding almost 1,500 bags of heroin during a traffic stop.

According to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the seizure happened on NC 211 between Bladensboro and Clarkton. Trooper J.K. Freeman stopped a car for speeding and requested assistance from the Sheriff’s K-9 Kahn. Kahn alerted the deputies and a search revealed the drugs.

Ronald Campbell, 38, of 110 North Mitchell Ford Road in Clarkton and Tanisha Simpkins, 34, of 7391 NC 211 in West Bladenboro were arrested at the scene.

Deputies say their search found 1,450 bags of heroin packaged for sale with a street value of about $17,400.

Both are facing drug and trafficking related charges. Simpkins is also facing charges for maintaining a vehicle for transportation of a controlled substance.

Sheriff James A. McVicker said Simpkins is believed to be one of several major heroin suppliers in Bladen, Brunswick, and New Hanover counties.  He said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are expected.
