Larry Legend teaches about anti-bullying and drug abuse to kids

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Getting rid of bullying and drugs, one hoop at a time. Larry Legend’s Dreams was in Wilmington at the Boys and Girls Club on Nixon street, teaching kids about anti-bullying and drug abuse.

“It started as a sobriety program for myself. You know, eight years of drug abuse. I started to wean off of it when I was playing and working with kids,” founder and CEO, Larry Legend, said.

Kids of all ages listened and participated in an open discussion with Legend. They also watched some intense basketball between Legend’s team and the New Hanover County sheriff’s office.

“The importance of not dealing with drugs, being able to talk people about these issues at a young age. Not to bully people. And if you’re being bullied, just speak up about these things. That’s the things we bring to the table, wherever we go,” Legend said.

And some kids said the message they were taught really meant something to them.

“I hate bullying cause I was with me and my friend, Dylan. We said if you see, like when we go to middle school together, if you see anybody getting bullied, then we gotta stand up,” a student at the Boys and Girls Club, Nuah Allsbrook, said.

Legend said he hopes to pass the program on to someone in the future, to make sure kids will continue to get the support they need.
