Late WBOR captain inducted into North Carolina Surfing Hall of Fame

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The late Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue Captain Jeremy Owens has been posthumously inducted into North Carolina’s Surfing Hall of Fame. 

Owens was with the Wrightsville Beach Fire Department and Ocean Rescue for 20 years. Prior to that, he lived and surfed in Hawaii for 10 years.

“Wrightsville Beach citizens have been deeply, deeply affected by the passing of Captain Owens,” the website reads. “The North Carolina Surfing Hall of Fame honors Captain Owens with this induction. His parents are inaugural members of the 1996 Wrightsville Beach Originals Reunion on Figure Eight Island.”

Owens died in November 2020.

North Carolina Surfing Hall of Fame pays tribute to those who have contributed an indelible mark on the sport and culture of surfing.
