Lawmakers tour facility, talk future of NC ports

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Area leaders, along with US Representative David Rouzer, talked transportation at the port today. The purpose of the tour was to speak about the future of the port and its importance to the North Carolina economy.

After touring the facility, Rouzer and others, including Chairman Bill Shuster of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, met with the press to talk about the future of the port.

Rouzer says the future looks bright and he is confident the Port of Wilmington will remain competitive with others nearby.

“I think the leadership here, Tony Tata and Paul and the others who are setting a vision for the ports of North Carolina – not just this one but the one at Morehead – I think they’re doing a good job of tapping into what you might say where we have a comparative advantage,” Rouzer said.

Port CEO Paul Cozza agrees that this is an exciting time for the ports and he is looking forward to moving ahead.
