Leaders announce school bond projects on two high schools

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A spokeswoman with the New Hanover County Schools has released future plans for two schools. The additions and renovations are part of projects in the county funded by the 2014 bond referendum.

The spokeswoman said both Hoggard High School and Laney High School will be getting a 1,600-seat main gymnasium and support facilities. The current gyms will serve as auxiliary gyms. There will be other infrastructure improvements planned at both sites. Bond Updates-LaneyBond Updates-Hoggard

At Laney High School, crews will build a new media center and turn the existing one into classrooms.

At Hoggard High School, the current cafeteria and kitchen will be expanded.

In November, New Hanover County voters passed a $160 million bond referendum for schools and NHCS facilities. These projects have a timeline for construction to start June 2016 and end August 2017.
