Legislators discuss economy on first day

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The State Legislature was back in session Wednesday in Raleigh for their first full day of 2015.

Leaders from our area had the economy on their mind as they started back. North Carolina as a whole saw progress in 2014, economically speaking. However, our area saw its share of setbacks too, specifically on film incentives and the historic preservation tax credit.

“It’s going to be very interesting to see since they are still in a super majority,” said Democrat Susi Hamilton, said she’d like to revisit both film incentives and the historic preservation tax credit in 2015. “We still have a republican governor. You know whether or not they’ll be able to get something through this time without participation by democrats.”

Republican Rick Catlin said film incentives is worth looking at again this year.

“I have not heard of any revisit of that other than taking a look at the grant program,” he said. “We’re going to take a look at the grant program.”

No big debates were held since it was their first day back on the job. The Legislature will reconvene Thursday morning.
