Leland American Legion Post 68 holds blood drive at WWAY
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Friday WWAY hosted a blood drive in collaboration with John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 in Leland.
The American Red Cross has issued a blood shortage alert in the area, this includes Wilmington and north Brunswick County.
The drive began at 10 this morning. Nearly 30 people signed up to donate and walk ins showed up as well.
Jim McAvoy is the Chaplin for the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68. He said this blood drive is an event he and his team look forward to four times a year.
“It’s important that we get back to the community and give back to the community. We sponsor four a year. As you know, there’s a critical shortage of blood here in the Brunswick Forest area, Brunswick County area. So, we try to do our part,” McAvoy said.
Cape Fear Area Chapter Executive Director James Jarvis said 23 units of blood were collected on Friday.
