Leland Chick-fil-a remembers coworker killed in car crash

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Workers at a restaurant in Leland are remembering their co-worker, who died Tuesday in a collision on Highway 17.

Cora Cartrette was killed while heading to work at the Chick-fil-A location in Leland Town Center.

According to the Highway Patrol, a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Deputy who was responding to a call from another deputy collided with Cartrette’s vehicle as she was turning left from Highway 17 onto Ploof Road.

A memorial honoring Cora is on display inside the restaurant.

The large, American flag outside the restaurant will remain at half-staff until the day of Cartrette’s funeral, which has not been decided yet.

WWAY reached out to Chick-fil-A corporate for a statement, but we have not heard back.
