Leland enhances pedestrian safety with new rapid flashing beacons

LEALND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Leland announced on Tuesday the installation of four rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) at two crosswalks along Town Hall Drive.
The project enhances safety between the Leland Library, the Brunswick Center at Leland, Founders Park, and Town Hall.
RRFBs flash in a rapid alternating pattern and also include auditory alerts helping everyone navigate the streets more safely.
The improvement supports the Town’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Comprehensive Safety Action Plan and the Integrated Mobility Plan.
It was funded by a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge Demonstration Grant with support from Toyota Motor North America.
Only 60 nonprofits and organizations were selected to receive the Demonstration Grant.
