Leland Fire Rescue saves kitten from storm drain
LELAND, NC (WWAY) – A purrfectly happy ending to what could have been a sad story.
Leland Fire Rescue saved a kitten on Monday.
According to the Leland Fire Rescue Facebook page, they received word that a kitten was stuck in the storm drain in front of Fat Tony’s. The manager went out in the parking lot and tried to free the kitten herself, but couldn’t, so they called for help.
Because the firefighters were not on a call, the crew went to see what they could do.
According to the Facebook post, ‘They are far from animal control officers, and none of them are particularly familiar with the ins and outs of our sewer drain systems,’ it reads ‘but we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, if you ever need us, we will be there.’
An officer climbed in one end of the storm drain and one of the firefigher/paramedics climed into the other end. That’s where they spotted the small kitten sitting in the middle of the drain, out of their reach.
The crew spent an hour, in ankle deep storm drain water, trying to coax out the kitten. Finally, an officer got their hands on the ‘exceedingly irritated’ kitten. The kitten was dried and took a photo with one of its rescuers.
The person who made the call for help took the kitten home.
