Leland man set to hold flag at NFC Championship game

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Leland teacher is getting a chance of a life time.  He’s taking the field during the NFC Championship game in Charlotte as part of an important game time tradition.

Christian Simmons is a teacher at Charter Day School. He said seeing the Panthers pound their way to the top of the NFC is a big deal.

“It’s the NFC Championship game it’s the biggest thing to happen in North Carolina since the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup,” said Simmons.

Simmons is a self-proclaimed Panthers fanatic. He and his father will be some of the people holding the American flag during the National Anthem before the big game.

“I’ve always wanted to do it,” said Simmons.

As a permanent seat license holder he pounced on the chance to be a part of the tradition especially before such a big game.

So what is it about the blue and black that Simmons loves so much?

“It’s the home team, I’m a home team kind of guy,” said Simmons.
