Leland man charged with first degree murder following Tuesday hit and run
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have charged a Leland man with first degree murder.
Christopher Michael Ganey, 22, of Buckeye Rd was taken into custody earlier Wednesday morning in New Hanover County.
This comes after a man was hit and killed Tuesday evening in the area of Old Fayetteville and Lanvale Road in Leland. Travis Bryan Stanley, 43, also of Leland, was found dead after being struck with a vehicle driven by Ganey.
According to a witness, Stanley left a store to get on his bike. Ganey followed him out of the store, got into a truck, and ran Stanley over. Ganey then allegedly turned around and hit Stanley again.
Ganey fled the scene following the crash, police say. He was located and apprehended in New Hanover County earlier this morning.
He is currently being processed by BCSO Detectives and will be booked into the Brunswick County Detention Facility.
