Leland named 16th safest city in NC

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — At a bank, people feel a certain sense of security or safety when they put their money in. A similar sense of safety is felt by residents in Leland who now live in one of the safest places in North Carolina.

In the 2017 Safewise report, Leland is ranked number 16 on the list of safe cities in the state.

This is a seven position upgrade over their previous rank of 23.

Martha Jackson with the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce says it’s very important to know that she lives in a safe city.

Jackson credits the job of the police force in the area as one reason.

She also says that being ranked so highly on the list is a selling point to residents coming to the already growing area.

“To me it’s just a real attractor. People come here to feel safe in their retirement and they don’t want to be worried and concerned about a lot of violence or theft and that sort of thing. So I think it’s a big attractor for people to come here.”
