Leland Police arrest suspect in Dixie Drive shooting

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Leland Police Department has arrested a suspect in the connection to an early morning shooting on Dixie Drive in Leland at the beginning of January.

Dustin Powers, 33, of Wilmington was arrested on Wednesday with the assistance of the Wilmington Police Department.

Powers is charged with breaking and entering with intent to terrorize and first-degree kidnapping.

He is currently being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center without bond.

On January 2, around 3:30 a.m. officers responded to the 100 block of Dixie Drive.

They found three people shot. Dylan Charles Hennessey, 35, died at the scene. Two others, including the shooter, were treated for their injuries at Novant Health NHRMC.

This is an ongoing investigation.
