Leland Town Council gives 2045 Comprehensive Plan update

LELAND, NC (WWAY)– The Town of Leland met Monday afternoon to look ahead to the future of one of the fastest-growing areas in Brunswick County.

One of the first items on the agenda was the quarterly update for the town’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan.

Among the goals set include protecting natural and cultural resources, improvements to streets, parks, and neighborhoods, and growing the economy.

Community Development Planner Julian Griffee says one thing did stand out more than the others.

“I think one of the main takeaways from this particular update, from my understanding it’s been trying to happen for a couple of years now, is a CRS,” said Griffee. “So that’s a community rating system, and that’s from FEMA. Basically, insurance premiums, once you get designated into a particular class, it’ll help people who are getting insurance premiums get a discounted rate on their flood insurance premiums.”

The CRS is projected to go into effect in October.

The next quarterly 2045 plan update will be in May.
