LGBT law puts Gov. McCrory in precarious position
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has emerged as the public face of a far-reaching LGBT law as he faces a tough re-election battle.
When he signed an executive order seeking to lessen the law’s impact, it appeased hardly anyone and actually upset some of his own conservative supporters who said he “went too far” in bowing to national pressure. Now he is in the difficult position of trying to appear business-friendly without watering down his appeal to social conservatives.
Chris Cooper, a political science professor at Western Carolina University, says that McCrory is in a tough spot.
Chris LaCivita, McCrory’s chief campaign consultant, says his client is being targeted by national Democrats in a presidential battleground state.
