UPDATE: Flames spark again after fire at Pender Co. home

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Dispatchers said flames sparked again early Friday at a home where a fire had already ripped through on Marsh Field Drive in Pender County.

New Hanover County Dispatch said some time around 3:30 a.m., crews got a call that flames and smoke could be seen from the home.

They said by about 5 a.m., firefighters had extinguished the flames again.

Several fire departments responded to the initial call around 5 p.m. Thursday. When firefighters arrived there was smoke coming from the house.

Pender County Fire Marshal Tommy Batson says the quick response time is due to a fire alarm that went off inside the home.

Even though lightning may be to blame, the cause is still under investigation.

“We are well aware some severe storms have moved through the area this afternoon and we’re looking into that, but the origin and cause of this fire is undetermined at this time,” Batson said.

No one was inside the house when the fire started and no one was hurt.

There is also no word yet on how much damage that fire caused.
