Lightning strike sparks small shed fire in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Firefighters say a lightning strike from storms that moved through the Cape Fear area Wednesday afternoon is to blame for sparking a shed fire.

A Wilmington Fire Department spokesman says the small fire happened at a detached shed at 2812 Chestnut Street. That’s where firefighters say lightning hit a nearby tree, which landed burning embers on the roof of a small shed there.

Crews say the embers from the tree then ignited the flames, which ended up being a total loss. Firefighters say the damages from the fire are estimated at around $1,000.
