Live burn training in Leland Saturday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Leland Volunteer Fire and Rescue will be conducting a live burn training exercise this Saturday, Feb. 20. from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
According to a release multiple structures and fire departments will be involved in the exercise. To reduce the danger to the public, part of Village Road will be shut down. The section will span from the Village Road intersection with Leland School Road (5th District Park) to Mt. Misery and Lanvale Road. The approximately 1.3 mile detour will be marked.
Families and anyone that would like to watch the exercise are welcome to watch from 10 a.m. to noon in the designated observation area. Chief John Grimes said in an email the area will be taped off and have tents with signs telling folks where to go.
The burn will remove two houses, 1562 and 1572 Village Road, in preparation for the new Leland Campus of Port City Community Church.
