‘Lives depend on it’: Police highlight problems with area school bus safety
WILMINGTON, NC (WAWY) — In the past week, children and adults have been hit or killed by drivers who passed a stopped school bus.
It happened in three separate states recently and now, Wilmington Police are shedding a light on how bad the problem is here.

WPD says they issued 20 citations for passing a stopped school bus in October, adding that it was a record high for this year.
“That means, we wrote a ticket nearly every day school was in session last month,” WPD wrote on Twitter.
Since January, police have issued 156 tickets for speeding in a school zone. A third of those tickets were written in August alone.
