Local beach bar collects bikes to donate to Toys for Tots
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH. NC (WWAY) — A bar full of bikes for children. A Wrightsville Beach bar started with a few donations for their Toys for Tots collection and now they have raided nearly 200 bikes.
Jimmy Gilleece, co-owner of Jimmy’s at Red Dogs said he started off doing a Toys for Tots collection, but it grew into much more.
The bar owner wanted to get involved and give back to others. Along with bikes he also collected helmets and a few skate boards with the help of the community.
“Unbelievably surprised, I would have been happy with 10 and like I said I got that in the first thirty minutes. People just kept sending me stuff. Everyday I would show up I would have ten boxes stacked out front of bikes people sent me off Amazon. It just kinda took it’s own path,” Gilleece said.
This was the first time the bar has done anything like this, but they hope to do it again next year.
