Local beach towns talk summer success
NEW HANOVER/BRUNSWICK COUNTIES, NC (WWAY) — For seaside towns like Carolina Beach and Oak Island, summer means big business. This year was no exception.
“A lot of people have said it’s one of the best seasons they’ve ever had,” said Greg Reynolds, the executive director of the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce.
Over in Brunswick County, it’s a similar story.
“It’s been very, very good even though the unfortunate events happened in the early summer, that has not deterred people,” said Melaney Robbins, vice president of tourism with the Oak Island/Southport Chamber of Commerce.
There weren’t any major storms, but sharks had people around the country talking about the North Carolina coast. Luckily, tourism officials said it did not have serious a negative impact on local beach towns.
“People are re-booking for next year. The shops and the restaurants are all giving really good reports,” Robbins said.
The fun doesn’t stop this weekend.
“During September there’s something happening every weekend. So we really don’t stop when school starts back. Every weekend will still be busy,” Reynolds said.
Folks can enjoy beach fun throughout the fall.
